Political and DEI officers have been a problem in the United States military for years. While President Trump and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth have been working aggressively to root them out, the issue continues to plague police departments across the country.
From Minneapolis to Portland and countless other blue cities, radical leftists have been appointed to critical public-safety leadership roles—not because of their qualifications, but because of their politics.
Law enforcement expert Dr. Greg Fremin, a former Houston Police Department captain, is sounding the alarm about this practice. “It’s very dangerous when you start promoting individuals who have political aspirations and strong political ideologies,” he said. “It destroys the morale of the department.”
Dr. Fremin pointed out that politically driven chiefs cannot simultaneously advance their ideological agendas and keep their cities safe. The result, he says, is almost always higher crime.
“Our mission is to protect and serve,” he continued. “When you start playing politics, it destroys that mission. At the end of the day, citizens suffer because crime rises.”
Fremin also warned that once a political police chief takes the helm, the downward spiral is hard to stop. “That person will surround himself with others he promotes—people who will bow down and kiss the ring,” he said.
This allows left-wing politics to quickly take over and irreversibly damage police departments from the inside out. That’s why, Fremin insists, law enforcement leadership must always remain apolitical.
