Doctor Deadline: Medicare Enrollment Ends This Weekend

If you're one of the 69 million Americans on Medicare, time is running out to make your coverage selections for the new year. This Sunday, December 7, is the final day of open enrollment for 2026. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz is urging people to take advantage of the enrollment process and the new benefits offered by Medicare. "I think part of the reason people don't sign up is they don't realize how much power they have, and they don't appreciate how improved these (Medicare) websites are," said Dr. Oz in an interview with Breitbart News this week.

Dr. Oz specifically touted the redesigned Medicare website, which is now cleaner and easier to use. He also promoted the new Trump RX website that displays the best prices for medications. "(These sites) make it really easy for you to seamlessly identify the best program based on the medications you're on and based on the doctors you want to see," said Oz.

Among the changes to Medicare this year, Dr. Oz noted cheaper prices for medications negotiated by President Trump under the "most favored nation" policy which allows the U.S. to pay the same low prices as other countries. President Trump also signed an order that will allow Medicare to cover weight loss drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy.

Enrollment is available at medicare.gov or by calling 1-800-MEDICARE. However you sign up, Dr. Oz says just make sure that you do. "Unfortunately, if you don't go to these sites and figure out the best place to get your health coverage, and customize it to your needs based on what medications you're on and where your doctors are practicing, then you have to wait another year...which means you're giving up all those savings for the next twelve months," he told Breitbart. "(Medicare) is yours. You own it."
