A man involved in a confrontation with the Houston Police Department died early Friday from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
According to HPD, the man stole a vehicle and a pistol from family members, prompting them to call police.
Before officers arrived, family members were able to recover the vehicle near Crosstimbers but not the stolen handgun.
Officers located the suspect underneath the Hardy Toll Road near Jensen Drive and East Crosstimbers. As they approached in their patrol vehicles, he immediately raised the pistol to his own head.
Despite repeated pleas from officers to drop the weapon, the man took his own life.
