Illegal immigration has long been the thorn in the side of the United States. Under the Biden Administration, millions of unvetted illegals from around the globe were allowed to just walk into the country, and we have been paying the price dearly. Crime has risen, illegals have received free government benefits, and nothing has been done to stop it until President Trump. But for as detrimental as illegal immigration has been, legal immigration might be having a similar impact.
This is not to say every immigrant is a terrible person, because there are plenty of good people mixed in the bunch. But Zohran Mamdani's win this month to become the mayor of New York City has shined a light on how legal immigration is not always a great thing. The Ugandan-born Mamdani has brought with him socialist principles, similar to that of Uganda, that he plans to instill in New York.
Brianna Lyman of the Federalist says his win was no mistake and he is bringing his third-world views to the big stage.
"This is someone who comes from a foreign country...does not bring with him the temperate love of liberty...runs for office and he wins," she says. "He did not just win because they are stupid New Yorkers, he won because of the foreign support he got in the city."
New York is possibly the most diverse place on earth, with millions of people from all walks of life. But with them they have brought their native lands old ways and a hatred for American values. Literally everything Mamdani stands for goes against basic American values.
Mamdani has said repeatedly since winning he wants to have more government, less freedom, and wants to seize luxury condos to tax the rich. All of that goes against what America stands for and what will be his undoing in the Big Apple.
It provides proof that just because someone moves to the United States legally, it is not always a good thing.
"When you bring in people from third-world countries, where there is severe corruption, no true understanding of government and no personal liberty...how can they possible believe in that in America? It is not their fault they never grew up with it, but that does not mean we just take them here," Lyman says
This is specifically why people have been calling for a moratorium on all immigration. Of course the left will call that fascist, racist, and have all kinds of problems with it. But the logic holds.
If you just let anyone into the country, legally or illegally, and they bring their warped ideologies with them, we have a hard time keeping America the Republic it has been for 250 years.
"Any immigration we have to consider if these people come from countries and cultures where they have proven themselves capable of self-governance," says Lyman.
You can argue with a wall if you think the idea is racist or bigoted. It is a simple fact that immigration of all kinds can be harmful, and with our Republic at stake, it is time to wake up and realize that.
