In the aftermath of last week's elections, and the wins for Democrats, some conservatives are concerned that President Trump and the GOP are losing independent voters due to their handling of the economy.
It's always about the economy.
"Absolutely" said Aaron Evans, president of 'Winning Republican Strategies', "It's vital for the Republican Party to stay on message and stay on focus, voters are always going to vote on what's closest to them, and there's nothing closer than your wallet."
And it's the top issue for voters again right now, as we get closer to next year's midterms.
"I think by nature, independent voters are independent, and it's very transactional in the sense that every election cycle, independent voters are looking for the party that's going to address their concerns the most" Evans told KTRH, "A lot of the initiatives that President Trump already has in place are going to play very well in the midterms, and I still feel like we've got a strong shot in the midterms, as long as we stay on message."
Affordability is the hot new message, and the Dems are definitely going to try and use it against Trump and Republicans.
"President Trump inherited a very big problem with the economy after four years of Joe Biden" noted Evans, "It goes back to the bottom line of, it's the economy, so that will be the focus going into the midterms."
The countdown has already begun.
