Senate majority leader John Thune says he will keep the Senate in session until a government funding deal is struck, he told reporters at the capital during a rare Saturday session.
Republicans would like the Senate to take a test vote this afternoon on a revised republican bill to end the shutdown and fund parts of the government for the rest of the fiscal year.
The bill would fund the government through late January and provide money for the agriculture department (which funds snap), along with the veterans’ affairs department and military construction projects and congress through sept. 30, 2026. Congress needs democrat buy-in totaling 60 votes to get the bill passed.
Democrat senators, led by Minority Leader Chuck Schumer have blocked the house-passed CR fifteen times.
