3 Killed In Suspected Drunk Driving Crashes

Three people suspected of drunk driving have been in Houston-area jails this weekend, one of them believed by police to have been involved in a horrific crash on Houston's south side.

Two men and one woman were killed early Sunday morning near the intersection of West Orem Drive and Almeda Rd.

There were five cars involved in the accident, which started with one driver heading south on Almeda without his vehicle's headlights on, smashing into another car.

Three occupants of that other car were killed: Two men and a woman, who was injured but was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

The driver of the car without lights on is thought by police to have been drunk driving; he was taken to a hospital, said by Houston police to have been in critical condition.

The force of the crash caused three other vehicles to sustain damage, but none of them hurt.

And about 2:30 Sunday morning two suspected drunk drivers were involved in a crash on the 69 Eastex Freeway in Montgomery County.

One driver was involved in an accident on the main lanes of the highway, and when EMS and a fire truck arrived to help, another driver hit the fire truck.

The emergency personnel were okay, although a tow truck driver nearby was injured and taken to a hospital with what sheriff's deputies said were minor injuries.
