2 Firefighters Injured in Blaze That Destroyed Houston Church

Some Houston churchgoers were happily remodeling their facilities when tragedy struck Saturday morning, leaving the Southeast Houston church grounds in ruins.

A fire broke out about 7 am at the Christ Church Apostolic building near Fuqua St. at Highway 3 Galveston Road, according to the Houston Fire Department.

Two firefighters were injured in the blaze, one of them breaking an ankle while fighting the fire, the other suffering a fractured femur, the bone that extends from the hip to the knee.

Both are expected to recover, but it may be long and painful.

The blaze was out in a couple of hours, though some firefighters remained at the scene for most of the day to be certain new fires didn't pop up, and to try to find out the cause.

The news of the church's destruction is devastating to attendees, the church buildings now said to have been destroyed by the blaze.
