DA: Man Charged in Ding Dong Ditch Murder Held on $1 Million Bond

Forty-two-year-old Gonzalo Leon Jr. has officially been charged with murder following the death of an 11-year-old boy over the weekend.

Leon Jr. is now being held on a one million dollar bond, and could face upgraded charges.

Around 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, Julian Guzman was reportedly playing ding-dong ditch with his friends and was allegedly shot by Leon Jr. after ringing his doorbell.

According to HPD, witnesses said that a man ran out of the house and was shooting at the group of children as they ran down the street.

Guzman was hit in the back and was later pronounced dead at the hospital. HPD has said that they don't believe the evidence in the case supports a self-defense claim.

The little boy's cousin said he and Julian were at a birthday party and were bored so they decided to ring neighborhood doorbells and run, just as a joke, but one neighbor became angry, ran out from behind a gate and followed the boys, who were running away.

The man, identified as Leon Jr., fired once into the ground and then again at the boys, hitting Julian, the witness said.

The boy dropped to the ground, crying out in pain, and his cousin dragged him away while the gunman walked home.

A neighbor helped, police were called and when they arrived, they searched Leon Jr.'s apartment, where they say they found pistols, shotguns and rifles.

The Harris County District Attorney's office has said capital murder charges could be filed against Leon Jr.
