Texas is expected to get the "most significant" number of National Guard troops as they are deployed during the coming weeks, according to a report from Fox News.
Citing unnamed Pentagon sources, the report says up to 1,700 Guardsmen and women are planning to fan out across 17 states in the US, status to continue through mid-November.
The surprising news is intended to provide details of an elaborate federal interagency effort intended as a "visible deterrent force," though it's unclear what threat is to be deterred.
It appears to be an extension of the National Guard deployment of nearly 2,000 from six states to Washington DC that began August 11th.
The service members have been assisting ICE with case management, logistics, transportation, and clerical duties related to illegal immigrant processing, according to some reports.
Using Natonal Guard troops, President Donald Trump said Thursday, "We're going to make it safe, and we're going to then go on to other places."
