The downfall of the once-trusted network MSNBC continues, as the left-leaning cable network keeps pushing progressive ideologies. It has become tiring for viewers, who have all but tuned out. One could argue their biggest night of viewership was election night, just so people could see Joy Reid and Rachel Maddow meltdown on television.
As a planned $7 billion Comcast spinoff of NBCUniversal's cable networks this year, NBC is looking to establish a new identity. One that resonates more with people. Part of that effort is trimming the toxic fat, and one of the biggest lumps of lard for NBC has been MSNBC. So, in effort to distance themselves from the partisanship of the network, MSNBC is undergoing a name change, and a logo change.
The network will be losing its name, becoming "MS Now," and will also lose the iconic peacock logo that is associated with NBC. Curtis Houck of News Busters says network executives have seen enough of the MSNBC toxicity.
"They said they do not want to be associated with them anymore, they do not want anyone to think they are still associated...that is a resounding defeat for the brand that is MSNBC," he says.
Not all outlets are gone though. CNBC will end up keeping its name, with a new logo set to come soon. It is just MSNBC who was tossed by the wayside, a damning indictment for how far the network has fallen.
The network's problem is the same as the Democrat party as a whole. They do not care about fact or reason. They just want to push the same narrative, despite Americans saying they are fed up with it. As they do that, other more moderate networks, who actually focus on the news, are growing. As they emerge, that puts "MS Now" in a tough position.
"They are going to have a hard time maintaining any sort of money-making capacity as more people cut the cord," says Houck. "They can hire this journalist or that one...they can get journalists to leave NBC news...the brand is still the same, it is still toxic."
If you have not stumbled across the new "MS Now" logo on the internet, it is worth researching. Because it is comically bad. Losing your iconic branding is already bad enough. But paying someone to design a logo that looks as if it was made on Windows 98 makes it worse.
Short-term, the network will likely continue doing its thing, still garnering viewers that want to live in their echo chamber of liberal politics. If you expected them to maybe learn a lesson here, you should know by now that is something the Left will never do.
"They believe the most fervent partisans are the most likely to tune in on a daily basis," Houck says.
Long-term however, as more of their loyal Boomer customers age and pass away, they will struggle to find their footing. As other more reliable news sources emerge, MSNBC will eventually be a decaying icon of what news used to be.
