Who's Really To Blame For The Lack Of Flood Relief?

After flood relief legislation failed to pass during the first special session of the 89th Legislature, Democrats are trying to blame Republican legislators and Governor Greg Abbott for the lack of flood relief. The harsh truth is, it's their fault.

The fact is, flood relief would have passed before the session ended if the Democrats hadn't broken quorum. Bexar County GOP Vice Chair Kyle Sinclair called them out for this, saying, "Out of one side of your mouth you're saying one thing, but here's what you're actually doing; they're stopping the Texas House from passing legislation to help flood victims."

Sinclair explained the timeline of events, saying, "After the redistricting committee passed the maps, they fled the state. When you flee the state and don't have a quorum, you can't pass any bills out of the House."

Sinclair says the reality is, they're using flood relief as a shield while they try to use redistricting to motivate the national Democratic base. He said, "You have Governor Newsom who's on TV talking about gerrymandering; that's what they want. They want the national attention; they want other states to get in this fight because they know they're going to lose."

He went on to say that he thinks the voters are going to see through these political games, and it will wind up costing them during the midterm elections next year.
