Get Back: Houstonians React to Runaway Dems

We've heard plenty from Texas leaders, pundits, and politicians about Texas House Democrats fleeing the state to break quorum and prevent a vote on redistricting. Now, we're hearing what Texas residents think about it. Fox News Digital spoke with several Houstonians, and got a general consensus that the Dems' actions are out of line. "I think it's kind of weird...like if I didn't show up for a meeting, I'd probably be in trouble," said one man. "If these were regular jobs, people would probably be in a lot more trouble over this."

Another man offered a similar assessment. "If you're elected and holding a seat, and you're supposed to represent the people, I don't care what side of the aisle you're on, you show up every time...it's your job," he said.

One resident blamed Democrats for their own predicament. "They need to improve their message and do better in elections, so they're not in the minority," he said. "As long as they're in the minority, they may not get their way."

Gov. Greg Abbott has threatened to remove these AWOL lawmakers from office, and Sen. John Cornyn has sent the FBI to track them down. But longtime Texas political consultant Bill Miller doesn't think it will come to that. "They're probably not going to be out of state for long, although it's unclear to me if the FBI finds them, how they are going to be transported back," he tells KTRH. "So it's an ugly situation, but the resolution is probably not far off."

Miller's sentiments on this are similar to other political experts, who predict the Dems will eventually fold because they are fighting a losing battle. "There is going to be a new (political) map, the only question is when, and the answer is probably sooner rather than later," says Miller. "But what are the consequences of all that? They are to unfold before our eyes."
