Dodie Osteen, co-founder of Lakewood Church and mother of Pastor Joel Osteen, has died at the age of 91.
Joel Osteen announced her passing Wednesday night, saying she died peacefully of natural causes at home.
Known as “Mama Dodie,” she was a beloved spiritual figure and inspiration to millions around the world. Dodie and her husband, the late John Osteen, founded Lakewood Church in 1959 and led it for 40 years. She also authored several books, including Healed of Cancer, which chronicled her recovery from metastatic liver cancer.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
