Trying to Stay in Office, George Backs Republican Redistricting Efforts

Embattled Fort Bend County Judge K.P. George is continuing to throw his support behind the Fort Bend County GOP and their redistricting efforts. The move has drawn suspicion from some members of the GOP base, but he seems to be following through with it nonetheless.

One thing is for sure: so far, the Fort Bend County Republicans have benefited from the move. Fort Bend GOP Chair Dr. Bobby Eberle told KTRH, "People were skeptical when it happened, but now we've had several commissioners court meetings where major votes went 3-2 on the Republicans' side."

Eberle did make it clear that these handful of votes don't automatically guarantee George the support of the Fort Bend GOP next time his name is on the ballot. He said, "People are reserving judgment; filings for office don't even begin until November, primaries are in March, so there's a lot of time for this to go awry."

He said at the end of the day, what's going to matter is the body of work that we see from Judge George at the end of the next 5-6 months. That's how he says we'll know for sure whether this conversion to the GOP by George is legitimate.

There is also the issue of George's legal troubles. He's currently facing a number of legal issues regarding alleged violations of campaign finance laws and a racism hoax perpetrated by his former chief of staff, Taral Patel. Eberle says right now, he's content to let those court cases play out and focus on making sure the county has strong conservative governance.
