It now appears that a woman who was killed by gunfire early Sunday morning was hit by at least one stray bullet during a separate shootout in Southwest Houston.
The woman was found by police to be the victim of a bullet wound after being called to a business just off Westridge Drive, not far from the 610 South Loop at South Main.
She appeared to be in her 20s or early 30s, so police said they were concerned about the motive for her shooting, but it was later found that she was likely not the target of whoever might have fired the gun that killed her.
Houston police say they were called to the shopping center in the 8400 block of W. Bartell about 1:00 Sunday morning to find the woman dead.
Investigators say they found shell casings in the parking lot of that shopping area, indicating a shootout among at least two people, and they believe the woman who was killed was not one of them.
And police said Sunday afternoon they're looking for nearby security cameras that might produce information on the shooting and those involved.
