Thunderstorms Roll Into Houston, Severe Warning In Effect

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for much of Southeast Texas until 8:25 pm Monday as threatening storms move in from the northwest.

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for Austin, Brazos, Burleson, Colorado, Fort Bend, Grimes, Harris, Montgomery, Waller, Washington and Wharton County.

Rain and strong winds have been battering the Dallas area Monday afternoon, with scattered rain throughout most of Central Texas. These storms have been moving in a generally east-northeasterly direction with plenty of rain moving into northeast Texas and Oklahoma.

In the Houston area, winds up to 30 miles per hour are expected later in the day, with higher gusts possible, according to the National Weather Service in Galveston.

This evening scattered thunderstorms are expected, with the chance of rain increasing as the day moves into night.

There are several watches in effect for southeast Texas counties and flood warnings in effect for Liberty County.

This is expected by forecasters to be the first of three unusually wet weather days, with more severe weather Tuesday and into Wednesday, including gusty winds and some strong thunderstorms possible, especially Tuesday.
