Twelve Houston Fire Department cadets-in-training have been dismissed because of what Fire Chief Thomas Muñoz calls racist behavior.
The dozen had been training for several months as part of a class of cadets that graduated on April 24th, but after an investigation the 12 were terminated from training just shy of a week before the graduation.
Anti-discrimination classes are part of the firefighter cadet training, but Chief Munoz said when claims of racism surfaced, investigators started asking questions and then the cadets were told they had to re-take those classes.
The April 24th class would have comprised 39 cadets, but the termination of the 12 trainees left the class with 27 headed for firefighting.
