Just when you thought Harris County's Democratic commissioners couldn't get any more radical, they approved a new climate justice plan that mimics Joe Biden and AOC's far-left "Green New Deal."
The plan proposes everything from a new "greenhouse gas tax" to income-based property taxes and even rent controls. The plan is now being blasted by local conservatives like Gary Polland with the Texas Conservative Review.
He spoke out against the plan, saying, "It's our version of the Green New Deal; it's our version of the 'anti-inflation' act that Biden passed. It's just a big joke. The county has basic functions it needs to operate under, and they're not even doing that right."
Polland went on to point out that the plan completely ignores critical issues like infrastructure, which has been falling apart in Harris County for years. He said, "They're looking for new ways to spend money when they're not taking care of the basics. My suggestion for the Democrats on the commissioners' court is, why don't we take care of the basics?"
According to Polland, thanks to the far-left supermajority on the Harris County Commissioners Court, it's up to the state of Texas to put a stop to this. He says, "The Attorney General can file lawsuits to stop this stuff, the legislature can pass laws that clarify why it can't be done, but a lot of the stuff they do is already against the law."
He added that these sorts of radical, and often illegal, actions are the reason Harris County has received so much attention from the state legislature this session.
