One Killed, One Facing Charges After Man Falls Asleep at the Wheel

Charges may be filed against a man who stopped his car in the middle of Ley Road late Saturday night and apparently fell asleep.

About 1 am, with the car parked in a traffic lane, a motorcyclist coming up from behind had to make a jerking evasive measure to keep from hitting the rear of the parked vehicle.

The abrupt swerve threw the motorcyclist and his passenger off the cycle and onto the pavement and gravel.

The motorcyclist and the driver of the SUV are said to be okay, but the passenger on the motorcycle was killed.

Police were called and when they arrived found the man in the SUV, his car engine on and the gear in drive while parked, asleep.

He was said to have shown signs of intoxication and could be charged with intoxication manslaughter in the death of the motorcycle passenger.
