Not only is Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller running for re-election, he is also getting the word out and warning Texans about unsolicited mystery seeds that have arrived across the state.
But, even more concerning is where these mystery seeds are arriving from.
"A direct shipment from China" said Miller, "We think it has something to do with Temu, the Chinese Amazon." That's China's equivalent to the U.S. shipping giant.
There have been 311 unsolicited seed packages collected so far, along with unknow liquids, and even a foreign plant.
"It could be just a test on our biosecurity" Miller told KTRH, "That's my fear, that they're using this to see how vulnerable we are to anthrax or a covid virus or something like that, that could be shipped along with these seeds."
The seeds have been delivered to 64 different locations across the state.
"If you get something like this, call us. I'll send an inspector out, we'll come pick it up and dispose of it and it won't cost you a dime. We bear the whole expense" noted Miller.
If you receive any unsolicited package containing seeds, liquids, or live plants, do not open it.
Keep the contents sealed in their original packaging and immediately contact the TDA toll-free at (800) TELL-TDA.
