It's hard to believe that the 89th Texas Legislative Session is already in the 2nd half, but it is. And Lt. Governor Dan Patrick is already pushing for a 'special session' if pair of priorities are not passed before the end of the regular session in June.
"Pragmatically, he has no choice on this" said Andy Hogue, communications director with the Travis County Republican Party, "And it's something that he's done before, and Governor Abbott has done."
Those two priorities are a ban on THC, and and much needed changes to bail laws in the state.
"I don't think each has a good chance on it's own merits if we were to sit down and discuss and come to some conclusion" Hogue told KTRH.
But, the problem has been getting the Texas House to vote on anything. Hopefully that will happen, and a special session won't be necessary.
"The fact of the matter is, we need to absolutely get down and demand that these bills be heard, and get serious about it" noted Hogue, "Let's be honest and lets tell the people of Texas why a bill isn't going forward."
It's worth noting that the proposed THC ban has already passed in the Texas Senate. No word yet on any bail changes.
