The federal government has brought in about $40 million in revenue from oil and gas lease sales on public land so far in 2025.

Last week, the Interior Department announced that President Trump’s high-priority focus of unleashing American energy dominance has already proven to be beneficial.

"This quarter’s lease sales demonstrate Interior’s unwavering commitment to fostering American Energy Dominance, and we are grateful to those who produce energy on federal lands," said Interior Secretary Doug Burgum.

American Petroleum Institute President and CEO Mike Sommers said the millions of dollars in revenue already generated this year is simply President Trump allowing things to happen that the Biden administration was against.

"Under the Biden administration, the oil and gas industry was not welcomed in the White House," Sommers said. "Now, we finally have a president that is focused on energy dominance."

Sommers said the oil and gas boom he expects for the U.S. is a sign of good things to come and sends a message that America is back open for business.

"We're not just producing oil and gas here but we're sharing that expertise with our allies all across the world," said Sommers.

Another key factor behind the increase in oil and gas production is in the race in artificial intelligence. AI will require a lot more oil, natural gas, and frankly, every other energy source, according to Sommers.

"America needs more energy because we have to fuel that AI revolution," he said.
