The Texas Senate has passed Senate Bill 1362, which would make it illegal for state or local law enforcement to enforce federal red-flag gun laws. This is aimed at helping protect gun owners from future anti-gun Leftists in the federal government.
Chris McNutt with Texas Gun Rights says barring Texas law enforcement from enforcing unconstitutional laws should be a no-brainer. He said, "The state should not spend resources enforcing gun control that is stricter than the laws that are already on the books in the state of Texas."
McNutt says that now the bill has made it through the Senate, the focus falls to the companion bill in the House. He said, "That's House Bill 162 by State Representative Briscoe Cain. Unfortunately, that bill has been sitting idle in the Texas House."
According to him, bills relating to firearms are usually sent to the Homeland Security Committee, which is typically made up of members who are strong supporters of the Second Amendment, but Rep. Cain's bill was instead sent to the State Affairs Committee, which he says is stacked with "moderate Republicans and anti-gun Democrats."
McNutt says that Texas Gun Rights (TXGR) will be doing everything they can to make sure that Republicans in the legislature understand that the voters want this bill passed.
