A Harris County Precinct 3 deputy was conducting a traffic stop on the East Sam Houston Tollway near Tidwell Road just after 6 p.m. Sunday when another driver crashed into them. The deputy suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital, while the other driver was critically injured and airlifted by Life Flight.
The crash forced the closure of all southbound lanes on Beltway 8, including the shoulders, for several hours. Investigators are working to determine if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
