Tesla wants to build a new giant facility west of Houston that will make special high-powered battery packs, and Waller County is welcoming the economic development.
New jobs are promised to come along with the new Megafactory to be built at the City of Brookshire, west of Katy.
Tesla is asking for tax breaks from the county, and commissioners have already said yes.
Now it's up to the Brookshire City Council to agree to tax breaks for the factory to move forward.
The Waller County Economic Development Council's Andrew Perry says it's expected to be a boon to the county.
"From what I understand, 15-hundred jobs, and they'll be good-paying jobs, manufacturing jobs," he says.
"You know, that's a good economic boon for this area," and Perry says he's looking forward to finding out more about Tesla's planned project, which is expected to cost hundreds of millions of dollars.
The Brookshire City Council could take up the Tesla request for tax abatements at their meeting this week.
