As the Texas legislative session continues in Austin, there's a new bill that that would allow for fewer polling places in counties with countywide voting.
Senate Bill 985, was introduced by Houston Republican state senator Paul Bettencourt.
"This is something that's been a problem for 2 years because it basically forces counties in low turnout elections to have hundreds of more polls than they need to" Bettencourt said.
The bill would amend a 2023 law that increased the minimum number of polling places required, even though they weren't necessary.
The bill is expected to pass easily. The big question is, will the left cry 'voter suppression'?
"The left cries voter suppression when we do anything logical" Bettencourt told KTRH, "So, expect the usual amount of Bettencourt voter integrity bills coming out of state affairs, shortly."
It's worth noting that SB 985 is supported by the Texas Association of Election Officials, as well as the Texas Association of County and District Clerks.
