It turns out that before meeting with President Trump, Zelenskyy met with anti-Trump Democrats. These Democrats may have set him up to fail by encouraging him to reject the minerals deal he was in Washington to sign.
Democrat Senator Chris Murphy posted about his meeting with Zelenskyy on X and explained that Zelenskyy wouldn’t support a deal that didn’t include security guarantees.
Harry Kazianis, president of 19fortyfive.com, says that’s a nonstarter for Trump. He said, "It means that the United States will send our boys and girls over to Ukraine to fight, and I think it’s very clear, looking at the polling, that’s not going to happen."
He says Democrats are encouraging Zelenskyy to push for these unreasonable terms. Their goal is to prolong the war and use it as a political weapon. He said, "I think what they’re trying to do is make the Ukraine war essentially Donald Trump’s Afghanistan."
Essentially, Kazianis believes the Democrats’ strategy is to label Trump as the president who "lost Ukraine." They aim to pin a "loser mindset" on him. He added that this strategy isn’t likely to work out for them because most Americans know that this war wouldn’t have started under Trump.
Furthermore, he stated that the only realistic options are either a negotiated deal between Ukraine and Russia or a prolonged war of attrition that ultimately results in Ukraine falling completely to Russia.
