Boy Says He Took Edibles, Shot Mother, Sister

A 15-year-old boy told Houston police Sunday he took "a bunch" of edibles and then shot his mother and his older sister.

Police were called to an apartment along Greens Rd. near I-45 the North Freeway about 11 Saturday night, after the boy called 911 and said he was suicidal or might want to kill someone.

A Houston Police spokesman said that when the officers arrived, "they found out that the 15-year-old suspect had just eaten a bunch of edibles and I guess had a bad reaction to them.”

Officers found the boy's mother and 17-year-old sister lying on a floor with gunshot wounds.

They were rushed to a hospital and were initially listed in critical condition. The police spokesman said that when firefighters "encountered the suspect in the parking lot, suspect pointed the firearm at the firemen and stated he had just killed somebody, then threw his weapon at the firemen and took off running."

He was captured and arrested a short time later.

The unnamed boy has a 16-year-old sister who was at the apartment at the time of the shooting but was unharmed.

Edibles are food or drink, usually candy or cookies, infused with the extract of THC, the active ingredient in marijuana; overuse of edibles, especially at high doses, can cause "acute psychiatric symptoms," according to a recent article in Medical News Today.

At smaller doses, edibles can help alleviate anxiety, pain, seizures, and the effects of cancer and cancer treatments.
