For those headed to or from Galveston Island there's an important traffic note to keep in mind -- construction is making it harder to get from the island going north to Houston.
The road work is in Galveston County leading up to I-45 causeway bridge, where the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is adding an extra lane of traffic between the Galveston Causeway and the Texas City Wye on the northbound side of I-45 and it's hard to avoid getting stuck in the backup.
And the construction and obstruction to free-flowing traffic expected to continue through very early Monday morning.
As the new lane is added, construction workers are moving traffic from one lane to another on a busy roadway that serves as the major artery between Houston and Galveston.
TxDOT advises drivers to just carefully watch the road signs as they're going through the area.
No lanes are expected to be completely closed, just rerouted so traffic is expected to be slow getting through, but it should keep moving.
