Man Recovering After Gunshot In Police Confrontation

A man stole a vehicle and then attempted to rob a convenience store on Houston's west side early Sunday morning, but he ended up in a hospital after a run-in with police.

Police were called to a location on Richmond Avenue near Jeanetta Street where they were told a car had been stolen.

They got a description and officers spotted the car around the time the man who allegedly stole the car was robbing a convenience store on Westheimer at Westerland Drive.

Police followed the man until he stopped in the Copperfield subdivision on West Road at Easton Commons in northwest Harris County, where the man jumped out of the car.

He then spotted police arriving and began shooting at them, according to the officers.

They returned fire, striking the man at least once.

He was later taken to a hospital; no one else was injured.

Houston police say several charges are being filed against the man.

It was the second day in a row that a suspect has fired on police officers; Saturday a teenager fired on police while trying to escape with a 15-year=old girl.

He's recovering in a hospital from wounds after police returned fire at an apartment complex on Park Place in Houston's near east side.
