Update: North Harris County Park Reopened After "Suspicious Object"

A suspicious object that caused a scene at a north Harris County park turned out to be nothing dangerous.

The Harris County bomb squad was called out Saturday afternoon about 2:30 to Doss Park near the corner of Fallbrook and Veteran's Memorial Drive.

A passerby had seen a "suspicious-looking" box under a tree at the park in the 2500 block of Frick Road, and when authorities were called they decided to take no chances, according to officials.

The bomb squad used every precaution, including a search robot, in opening the box.

When the shoebox-sized container was opened it contained only a dead cat that someone may have intended to bury.

Harris County Sgt. Tiffany Pickens, however, was concerned because several people had handled that box before the bomb squad arrived.

“If you see something, say something, but don’t touch it,” she told the public at a news conference after the incident was over.

“Call law enforcement immediately.”
