Two weeks into his second term, President Donald Trump is still winning over the public despite relentless attacks by left-wing media. Even CNN hosts were stunned to report Trump's net approval is now higher than at any point in his first term, up nine points compared to when he took office eight years ago. "To borrow a Donald Trump phrase, this is big league," said CNN data reporter Harry Enten as he reported on the Trump approval numbers.
The numbers CNN cited come from a Reuters/IPSOS poll, but other surveys also show Trump exceeding his popularity from his first term. A Fox News poll just before he was sworn in had Trump at 52% approval, and the latest Rasmussen Reports daily tracking surveys have Trump hovering between 50% and 52%. All of those numbers are at or near record highs for his time in office since 2017.
At the same time, Trump's opponents are going in the opposite direction. Fox Business' Stuart Varney recently pointed out this phenomenon, noting a new poll showing the Democratic Party with just a 31% favorable rating. "Democrats are in deep trouble," says Varney. "They may be making a lot of noise...but voters are leaving them behind. The go-to party now is the GOP, we haven't seen this in years."
"There's a pattern here," Varney continues. "Trump and the Republicans are gaining popularity, while the Democrats are sinking."
Despite these numbers, Democrats and legacy media continue to attack Trump like they did during his first term and throughout the campaign last year. But so far, it is backfiring. "Resistance without viable policies just goes nowhere," says Varney. "This is one of those moments in history where a newly-elected, dynamic president with a plan sweeps the field, and leaves his opponents gasping for breath."
