According to a new poll, Texans strongly support regulatory reform. How much support? A whopping 94%. So what exactly does regulatory reform mean?
"In Washington D.C. we have a swamp" said James Quintero, policy director with the Texas Public Policy Foundation, "Here in the Lone Star state we have a bit of our own swamp too."
As in too many agencies, too many words, and too much red tape to get everything done quickly and efficiently.
"It turns out that the Lone Star state actually has a rather robust administrative state in place that is really taking some of the luster off of the Texas Miracle" Quintero told KTRH, "Most people want the government to do their homework and show their work, before passing these rules and regulations."
Basically, it's time to drain the Texas swamp.
"The general public in Texas is ready for regulatory reform, they want common sense rules in place that not only reduce the volume of red tape, but make the whole system more transparent" noted Quintero.
The poll found that the overwhelming majority of Texans want clear and easily accessible rules, objective and transparent reviews, and a modern and efficient process.
During this current legislative session, Quintero says they will push for what is called a 'sunset requirement' on all new state regulations. That means there would be a date when these rules and regulations expire, and must be revisited.
