Fort Bend County Judge K.P. George seems to be following in Lina Hidalgo's footsteps by using campaign money to pay for his legal defense. He's facing criminal charges related to an alleged racism hoax in 2022.

Fort Bend County GOP Chairman Robert Eberle says that the case isn't looking good for Judge George. He said, "The trail just keeps leading closer to more involvement with K.P. George, and this first misdemeanor charge, I believe, is just the beginning."

While George is hardly the first politician to dip into his campaign funds to cover legal fees, Eberle says it's causing his donations to dry up. He said, "No one's going to rally to someone who's accused of doing fake racist posts for political gain."

He says that often, political donors are investing in both an agenda and the character of the officeholder, and when donors feel like they're just covering legal expenses and not getting the agenda they support out of it, the money dries up.

He went on to point out that this stands in stark contrast with President Donald Trump, who, despite also using campaign funds to cover his legal defense fees, managed to grow his support and get increased donations throughout his legal battles. Eberle says that's because Americans could clearly see that the prosecution of President Trump was political.
