Chances are you woke up to snow this morning. Local officials say most of Harris County will be getting anywhere from two to six inches of snow and or ice. Treatment of the roads across the city of Houston and Harris County has been underway since yesterday.
Harris County Deputy OEM Coordinator Brian Murray said, "The City of Houston and some of our partners in the precincts have been pretreating the roadways; certainly, the major interstates are getting taken care of. But some of the side streets are going to be a little bit fewer and farther between."
The good news is that Harris County OEM still isn't expecting major power issues. Murray said, "Since this is snow and not a lot of ice, that's going to take a lot of pressure off the tree branches and also the power lines. So, yeah, disruption of transmission, we're not as worried about that."
Regardless of that, preparations have been made to ensure warming centers are ready across the county. Murray said, "The city has 10 warming centers set up; precinct commissioners and some of our partners are opening up across Harris County. Right now, we're feeling good about where we are."
He did go on to ask people to stay off the roads as much as possible, at least until Wednesday.
