In the waning days of the Biden administration, new evidence emerged of the border crisis that has been building for the last four years. Border Patrol agents discovered a cross-border tunnel near El Paso, connecting the city to Juarez, Mexico. The tunnel was connected to the El Paso sewer system, and equipped with lighting throughout. Investigators say they don't know who is responsible, but it appears to have been built within the past year. "This is one of the more sophisticated tunnels we've seen," says South Texas Congressman Tony Gonzales (R), in an interview with KFOX-TV in El Paso. "But, you know, until this border crisis gets under control I think you're going to see more of these tunnels."
"And ideally, we'll have agencies that uncover more of these tunnels," he continues.
President Trump is already taking action to reverse the Biden border crisis. On his first day in office, Trump issued executive orders declaring a border emergency, shutting down the CBP One app for migrants, and designating the cartels as terrorist organizations. Gonzales welcomes these and other actions. "Here in Washington we are eagerly waiting for the new page to turn," he said. "And back home in the district, I also agree, regardless of your politics, everyone's just ready for a new chapter."
