In what he said that he hopes was his final press conference to wrap up Winter Storm Enzo, Mayor John Whitmire praised Houstonian's for doing their part by staying home and staying off of the roads, while also shouting out his team (HPD, HFD, HPW, and Metro) for all of the work they have done over the last few days.
"Let's be thankful that we've reached this stage in the arctic blast that we can go back to normal operations" Whitmire said, along with giving thanks.
The city operations are set to return to normal tomorrow, with both Bush and Hobby airports back open today.
The only lingering concern is ice on the roads, and sub-freezing temperatures that are expected again overnight.
"Let me caution Houstonian's about in the morning and even late this evening, there's still significant ice patches on our roads and bridges, so let's don't become complacent" Mayor Whitmire pointed out, "We still have some challenges."
The Mayor also noted that there have been no deaths due to a car accident, or carbon monoxide poisoning. Warming shelters will remain open again tonight.
Nearly all area school districts will be back open on Thursday. As of Wednesday afternoon, Dayton, Hardin and Liberty ISD's and Bob Hope School are the only ones to be closed.
