Winter Storm Watch Issued for all of Southeast Texas

The weather forecast for next week is becoming more clear. And it looks like the Houston area will in fact get a winter storm next week.

A winter storm watch has been issued for all of Southeast Texas from 6 p.m. Monday to 6 p.m. Tuesday. A mixture of snow, sleet, and freezing rain is likely to fall Monday night and most of Tuesday.

"We're likely to see the storm Monday night through Tuesday afternoon," Cameron Self with the National Weather Service in League City told KTRH.

"Whether it's snow, sleet, or freezing rain; weather it's light or heavy, it doesn't take much to cause problems in Southeast Texas," Self said, adding that we could get multiple inches of snow depending on how some of the bands set up.

ERCOT has issued a weather watch for next week due to the extreme cold weather.

The weather watch is in effect for January 20-23. It's expected there will be a higher electrical demand and the potential for lower reserves across the ERCOT region.

Grid conditions are expected to be normal, however, winter precipitation is likely in southeast Texas with a window of snow fall and freezing rain possible starting Monday night and into Tuesday. There is not expected to be widespread power outages at this time.
