New Harris County D-A Seeks Recusal in Hidalgo Staffer Cases

Harris County District Attorney Sean Teare, who assumed office on January 1, has filed a motion to recuse the Harris County Attorney's Office from prosecuting three cases involving former staffers of County Judge Lina Hidalgo.

The motion, filed Thursday, requests the Texas Office of the Attorney General be formally appointed as attorney pro tem in the cases. Teare said in a press release that his goal is to avoid any perception of conflicts of interest.

The cases date back to 2022 when Hidalgo’s former chief of staff Alex Triantaphyllis, policy director Wallis Nader, and policy aide Aaron Dunn were indicted for misuse of official information and tampering with a government record. In 2024, then-District Attorney Kim Ogg enlisted the Attorney General's Office for assistance but did not officially recuse her office
