After last week's budget battle, some conservatives, including former Trump advisor Steve Bannon, are calling for Mike Johnson to resign as Speaker of the House. The problem is, last week's debacle might not be Speaker Johnson's fault.

Political consultant Vlad Davidiuk says, with a majority of just a few seats in the House, there's not much more Johnson could do. He said, "It's hard to really pin a lot of blame on Johnson. The margins are just too small. There's not enough cushion for Speaker Johnson to have really prevailed here."

Thanks to that incredibly slim majority, Davidiuk says that even if Johnson did resign, the new speaker wouldn't be much different. He said, "It's almost impossible to expect anyone to the right of Speaker Johnson to emerge as a viable alternative."

He says anyone that is more of a hardline conservative, and more in line with what President Trump wants to do, just won't be able to get enough votes. Davidiuk says what the House GOP really needs here is simply a stronger majority. He says over the next two years leading up to the midterm elections, the GOP will have to work hard to prove to American voters that they deserve that majority.
