So just how much does it pay these days to be a public servant in Texas? It pays pretty good if you're in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Is it Fort Worth? or net worth? The new City Manager there is receiving a starting base salary of $435,000!
"Now it's not just the size of the salary that should concern taxpayers" said James Quintero, policy director with the Texas Public Policy Foundation, "But also the level of benefits provided."
That's right, the new Forth Worth City Manager is getting great pay, and great perks.
"The new city manager is going to receive $600 per month for a car allowance" Quintero told KTRH, "This is another example of government spending run amok."
In case you're wondering, here in Houston, the Deputy Chief Medical Examiner receives $540,000 annually. But these salaries are simply outrageous.
"No city manager in Texas should make more than the president of the United States" noted Quintero, "That's a major signal that we need strong legislative reform in the next session. City, county, and school district salaries have grown out of control."
It's time for lawmakers to come up with local government spending limits, to keep these massive salaries under control.
Also here in Houston, there are 15 employees in the forensic sciences department, that make over $300,000 per year.
