Paxton Sues New York Doctor Over Allegedly Mailing Abortion Pills to Texas

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has sued a New York Doctor for allegedly sending abortion pills to Texas residents.

Paxton said Dr. Margaret Carpenter, a medical professional from New York, violated state law for not being a licensed Texas physician and allegedly mailing abortion drugs to Texans. Dr. Carpenter allegedly provided an abortion pill to a resident of Collin County.

According to Paxton, the mother saw serious medical complications after taking the pill that killed the unborn infant and that she needed medical attention soon after taking it.

“This doctor prescribed abortion-inducing drugs—unauthorized, over telemedicine—causing her patient to end up in the hospital with serious complications,” Paxton said. “In Texas, we treasure the health and lives of mothers and babies, and this is why out-of-state doctors may not illegally and dangerously prescribe abortion-inducing drugs to Texas residents.”

The lawsuit seeks to prohibit Dr. Carpenter from further mailing abortion drugs to Texas residents and to also impose civil penalties of at least $100,000 for each violation of Texas law.
