In recent years, sanctuary cities have become the focal points of the border crisis. Thankfully, that could all finally be coming to an end soon. It looks like the Trump administration has plans to crack down on these cities.
Joey Chester with the Federation for American Immigration Reform told KTRH, "The Trump Administration may be planning to try and cut off some of this funding. There's the FEMA funding, the Shelter and Services funding."
He says while some of the steps Trump might want to take will require congressional approval, he doesn't think that will stop him. He says both Congress and Trump have been sent to Washington with a mandate from the voters to stop this.
And it's not just in Washington. Even at the local level, in traditionally heavily Democratic areas, voters are pushing back against sanctuary policies. Chester said, "These leaders that double down and shift more towards the open border side could see consequences for their actions in the future."
In New York, Democratic Mayor Eric Adams has already begun moderating when it comes to illegal immigration. Chester says he's already signaled a willingness to work with Trump to deport illegal aliens and has even gone as far as to deny that New York is a sanctuary city.
