Texas Lt. Governor and President of the Texas Senate Dan Patrick has announced that the Senate will push for a full ban of THC in Texas next year. This could be an attempt to clear up some of the gray areas in Texas' THC laws.
Political Consultant Bill Miller told KTRH, "Some of it's not quite legal, but not quite illegal, and to me, this is showing a clear, unmistakable line in the sand that says, 'Nope. We're just not gonna do it.'"
Patrick said in a statement posted to his X page, “Thousands of stores have opened to sell all types of dangerous products with unlimited THC. These stores even target your children.”
Miller says there's a good chance that Patrick is able to push this bill through the Texas Senate, but the Texas House is another question entirely. He said, "He's smart enough to know that if he wants something done, he's gonna have to work with the House. In my opinion, the House is not gonna buy a complete ban."
Miller believes that Patrick knows that, and is really just using this statement as a way to kick-start negotiations on THC regulations. He said, "I think this is just gonna lead to tightening the regulations in a very specific way, to prohibit specific things that are going on, that are maybe outside the bounds of the law."
