Rural Health Care In Texas Is A Growing Issue

While most American's are struggling with their health care premiums for 2025, many rural Texans are struggling just to find health care.

Case in point, the folks in Bowie, Texas who had their hospital close, and then just last month their emergency room shut down.

"And so the residents are trying to look at options to allow them to have, especially emergency care in the area" said Kim Roberts, reporter for The Texan.

It turns out, shrinking rural health care in Texas is a growing problem.

"20 rural hospitals have closed since 2005 in Texas" Roberts told KTRH, "And rural health care is really suffering."

The main reason is money, or the lack of it.

"Rural areas are just struggling to maintain hospitals, for both financial and recruiting reasons" noted Roberts, "A lot of them are operating at a negative budget, and so it's very difficult to stay afloat that way."

She adds that the state and Governor Abbott, are working to address it. But some residents now have a :40 minute drive to the nearest health care of any kind.
