There were truly no surprises on Election Night 2024, if you followed the campaign of Kamala Harris. No one with logic was shocked that she was blown out by Donald Trump after running a half-cocked campaign filled with celebrity endorsements, and bizarre Tik Toks. What was a small honeymoon as a new candidate crashed down in epic fashion, leaving her campaign $20 million in debt.
It was a lesson to learn for Democrats. People simply do not like being called 'Nazi's' for supporting Trump, and did not buy into their fearmongering, and basic logic would say they need to rip their gameplan down to the studs. But as Trump takes over and we look ahead to who will run in 2028, new polls show that Democrats learned absolutely nothing from the failure of 2024.
A new poll from Echelon Insights shows that Kamala Harris would be the frontrunner for the Democrats in the 2028 election, leading the next closest person (Gavin Newsom) by over 33 points. That is astonishing, considering how bad of a flop her 2024 ended up being.
But Jeffrey Lord of Newsmax says this is not an uncommon thing for a losing candidate to be considered the frontrunner in the next cycle.
"There are all kinds of variables to this...there is a lot of things that can happen in four years...but it is not out of the ordinary to think she could be the frontrunner," he says.
In the poll, Kamala leads with 41 percent, with California Governor Gavin Newsome behind her at 8 percent. Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro comes in at 7 percent, while Kamala's running mate Tim Walz is at 6 percent.
Again, after running a vicious campaign that failed to win over Americans, it would seem they might need to find fresh blood to get in the running. But, logic has never been the Left's strong suit. But in that is another problem: there is no real new face to back.
"In sports, they talk about a team having a deep bench...and that is the job of the president...to usher in new faces...the Republicans have done a good job of it under Trump...the Democrats though, outside of Gavin Newsom, have not done very much," he says.
The GOP field is set to be very crowded in 2028, with people like Ron Desantis, Marco Rubio, and even JD Vance possibly taking a stab at the White House. The Democrats meanwhile have just more far-Left leaning people to push, which America has shown they do not want.
But again, it is no surprise to see her as the frontrunner at the moment, especially in the immediate aftermath of her candidacy. But the honeymoon phase is coming to and end, especially with the track record of the Biden-Harris term.
"Being Vice President is a two-sided coin...everyone can see you as a potential nominee, but on the flip side...you because you are Vice President, you get nailed for all the President's mistakes," says Lord.
Whether or not she is the frontrunner is up to the next four years, and how successful Trump is in turning the country around for the better. But as of now, the Democrats have yet to learn from their mistakes and will continue to lose until they do.
