With Donald Trump set to return to the White House, many are wondering how that is going to change our relationship with China?
"At least in the initial period, Chinese leaders are going to be very cautious, and they are not going to engage in as provocative behavior as they otherwise would have with a president Harris" said expert Gordon Chang, who also has a new book out, titled - Plan Red: China's Project To Destroy America.
Chinese president Xi Jinping called president Trump to congratulate him, but then also warned that the U.S. would "gain from cooperation and lose from confrontation" with China.
"The Chinese leaders didn't want Trump anywhere near the oval office" Chang told KTRH, "And that's because president Trump is unpredictable. They have no idea, and so therefore I think they're going to give him a very wide birth, because they don't want to find out what he will do."
Which leads to the next question. What about a possible conflict?
"I don't foresee a military provocation like we otherwise might have" noted Chang, "With Trump they are scared of what he might do, and they're worried about tariffs and other things as well."
Last year, China exported about $500 billion worth of goods to the U.S., about 15% of all of its exports.
