We can expect quick changes on border policy once Donald Trump is back in the Oval Office.
After the Biden-Harris administration reversed every one of Trump's policies on the border, the U.S. saw a massive influx of illegal border crossings that included drug dealers, gang members, rapists and murderers. The rest of the world quickly caught on too that the U.S. southern border was open for anyone to cross.
According to U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, there have been over 11.5 million illegal migrants enter into the country in the last four years. Some officials, including President-elect Trump, believe that number could be twice as much. Trump has repeatedly said that once he is in office, they will begin the process of the largest mass deportation in U.S. history.
Dan Stein, president of the Federation for American Immigration Reform, said there won't be any messing around in the second Trump term and the promise of mass deportation of criminal illegal aliens is coming quick.
"ICE is now going to be in power to arrest and begin removal proceedings for people who are here illegally," Stein said.
Stein believes the Trump team will also work to promote stronger state and local cooperation with the agencies tasked with finding the criminal illegal aliens and move them out of the country. Trump has put an emphasis on locating the most dangerous people in the country illegally including ruthless drug dealers and violent gang members.
"They are certainly going to put priority on these Venezuelan gang members who have come in recently, people who haven't been subject to proper vetting, people who have criminal backgrounds that were released under the Biden administration and people with terror connections," said Stein.
The focus for immigration and law enforcement officials will be on inspecting and identifying people who are here illegally and put them through removal proceedings. Remain in Mexico and building more miles of border wall are likely to come back too.
So, it sounds likely that the Trump administration will likely repeat the same strategies they had in place at the border from 2016 to 2019 and Trump also says "cost is no object."
"The process is going to take some time but you can expect the Trump administration to immediately reinstate the executive orders that Biden repealed," Stein added.
