After big wins for Republicans at both the national and state levels, there are still several local elections here in Harris County and the greater Houston area that remain too close to call.

In the closely watched race for Harris County District Attorney, Democrat Sean Teare has managed to defeat the Republican Dan Simons by fewer than 23,000 votes.

Harris County Attorney Christian Menefee is currently ahead of Republican challenger Jacqueline Lucci Smith, but only by a slim margin of just 12,794 votes.

Incumbent Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez is expected to beat Republican Challenger Mike Knox. Gonzalez is currently leading by a 53 to 47 point margin.

The lone Republican on the Harris County Commissioners Court, Tom Ramsey, is expected to win a comfortable reelection. He leads his Democratic challenger Saleem Malik by nearly 140,000 votes.

As far as the judicial races are concerned, journalist Holly Hanson reports that Republican candidates are leading in 10 district courts, 1 county court, and 1 Justice of the Peace race.
